When the switch is in VTP transparent mode (VTP disabled), you can create extended-range VLANs (in the range 1006 to 4094). Extended-range VLANs enable service providers to extend their infrastructure to a greater number of customers. The extended-range VLAN IDs are allowed for any switchport commands that allow VLAN IDs. You always use config-vlan mode (accessed by entering the 搗lan vlan-id?global configuration command) to configure extended-range VLANs. The extended range is not supported in VLAN configuration mode (accessed by entering the 搗lan database?br>privileged EXEC command).
Example:
Switch(config)# vtp mode transparent Switch(config)# vlan 2000 Switch(config-vlan)# end
Spanning Tree Root Guard
The Layer 2 network of a service provider (SP) can include many connections to switches that are not owned by the SP. In such a topology, the spanning tree can reconfigure itself and select a customer switch as the root switch. You can avoid this situation by configuring root guard on SP switch interfaces that connect to switches in your customer's network. If spanning-tree calculations cause an interface in the customer
